Meet Dr. Nichols

Pediatric dentistry is the most rewarding profession in the world. The difference I can make in a child’s life is fulfilling beyond words. I love it when a child who was once very fearful of the dentist gives me a huge hug and a smile at the end of the appointment! When children take time to color me a picture, or send me a picture of themselves in their team’s uniform or ballet costume, it makes my day! I love what I do, and I love the children and the parents I serve.

I am so glad that God chose me, and directed me to be a pediatric dentist, 20 years ago. We have been providing great care in Redlands for those 20 years, and now we are excited to begin a new chapter here in Riverside!

Education and Continuing Education

I was born in Iowa, but have called Southern California my home since the age of three. In my younger years, I attended Yucaipa Elementary School, Yucaipa Intermediate School, and Yucaipa High School.

I attended Crafton Hills College and Fresno State University, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in biology/zoology. I attended Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1993. I was the first resident ever accepted to Loma Linda University’s new postgraduate program in pediatric dentistry. After becoming a certified pediatric dental specialist, I opened my practice in Redlands in 1995.

Education is a continuous process. I constantly make it a priority to stay informed about all the latest advances in pediatric dentistry, to improve the quality care I provide and the outcomes of the treatments I perform for my patients.

I constantly stay up to date with all the latest products and techniques by reading scientific journals and attending more than 30 hours of continuing education courses per year. I also teach continuing education courses to my colleagues and to WIC educators and counselors, as well as to various stay-at-home mothers and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) groups throughout the Inland Empire.

Outside the Office

I have been married to my high-school sweetheart, Cheralyn, since 1987. We have three children — Jordyn, Janelle, and Tyler — and a grandson named Jaxson. We also have three dogs, 30 chickens, a horse, and a miniature pot-belly pig named Penelope. Life is never boring at our house!

When I’m not helping children, I can be found attending Angels baseball games, cooking in my kitchen, going out to eat with friends, playing golf, or hanging out at Sandals Church in Riverside. My passion for helping people has led me to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ by my actions, and sometimes by using words. I love giving of my time and talents to others. Gifts and acts of kindness are my Love Language.

I believe it is always important to re-invest in and support the communities that have supported our practice. I have been involved with Give Kids a Smile, and CDA Cares, and provide free dental care to children throughout the year. I am also involved in various community service projects with our church. I currently serve on the board of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and I have served on a number of nonprofit boards of local Christian schools.
